(The route of the Bicentennial of Chile)
countries are identified primarily by their standards, but say much more selves by their shields. We take the upcoming Bicentennial of Independence in South America to address this issue with the example of Chile's national symbols.
The first coat of arms was established during the government of Jose Miguel Carrera, in 1812. It was designed on an oval, in the center had a column representing the Tree of Liberty, about the column noted a globe; on the globe, a spear and a palm cross, and above them a star.
Standing next to the column, next to a man and the other a woman, both indigenous. At the top, the shield had a Latin motto - "Post tenebras lux" - meaning "After darkness, light, and at the bottom, another, also in Latin -" Aut aut consiliis teaching "- , which means "O by counsel or by sword." In 1817, there are two new shields. The June of that year, just kept the column, the balloon and the star on an oval, which on top is printed with the word "Liberty." In October, it creates another similar to the previous, to which we add two flags whose masts intersect, and disappears the word "Liberty."
The flag of independence was wearing the same coat in the middle, but with the amendments of 1817. The current flag has the same colors but does not carry a shield and the star has been simplified and straightened.
The current seal was adopted by Congress on June 24, 1834, at the request of President Joaquín Prieto and his minister Tocornal. It is designed on the figurative cut into two camps: the blue top and red bottom with a white star in the center of the bottom. On the figurative is a plume or feather tricolor blue, white and red, and supports huemul takes a right and a condor on the left, each with a gold naval crown.
